There are a few key points to processing a foam box in MSoft to avoid errors leading to a bad reconstruction.
First, make sure the scan was made with the good scan mode : foam box (negative imprint). You can ensure the right mode was used by looking at MSoft’s title bar.
Secondly, the 2 boxes must be split, if the 2 feet scan
option was selected. Following the color coding, make sure the right foot and
the ‘right’ label are the same. If not, swap the sides by clicking on the swap
button.
Click on the green checkmark to accept, which should position the foambox horizontally. This means the scan is aligned.
Thirdly, click on ‘Clipping’ at the top. Then with the plane
tool, place the cursor on its edge and adjust it to select only the top of the
box. Click on ‘CLIP’.
This creates the negative imprint.
There may be remnants unnecessary for the rest of the process. To quickly dispose of them, click on ‘ADVANCED’ on the left side.
Clicking on ‘REFRESH’ will generate a list of all the shapes
not connected to the imprint. Click ‘FACES’ and ‘Hide All’, then in the list of
shapes, hover until the imprint shows up highlighted in the viewer on the right,
then click on the shape’s corresponding circle. The imprint shape is usually
the first in the list.
Once the imprint is found and selected, click on ‘Apply’.
This removes the extra remnants and leaves a nice, clean imprint.
Click on the ‘Accept’ button (green checkmark). The reconstruction will render you a 3D watertight footblock. Do the same process fort the second foot, if needed. Click on the Accept button.
This will process both feet, and show the measurements set in the software’s options.
To finish the process, open the ‘File’ menu in the top left, and ‘Save as’.
It is strongly recommended to save as a .med format on top of your required 3D formats, as that allows to reprocess the shape without any additional fees by opening the .med file and reprocessing it as many times as required.
