How encryption works
To ensure only authorized people have access to your files, two types of keys are needed: public and private. The public key will allow users (your clients) to encrypt their file before exporting to make it unreadable if intercepted. The private key allows a specific person (in your team) to decrypt and open the file.
How public keys work
Encryption requires authentication. This means that every user will need to log in and register using an ID and password to send 3D files. By approving these new accounts, customers can access and use your app. Every file they send will be automatically encrypted.
The public key is stored in a secured hub (integrated in TechMed 3D’s cloud solution). When a user logs in, and access is confirmed, the public key is automatically downloaded to encrypt each of the user’s 3D files before they are exported. The public key is limited to encrypting files; it cannot decrypt them.
How private keys work
The private key is the most crucial as it is only this that allows you to decrypt files you receive from your customers. Once you get your private key, we strongly suggest that you save a secured copy elsewhere, just in case.
If the key is lost, it is impossible to get it back and files can no longer be accessed.
Key management options within the iMed Decrypter
- GENERATE NEW KEY PAIR
This option generates a new public and private key. If you do not copy the one previously created, you will lose it.
- CURRENT PRIVATE KEY
Will show you only your current key. We strongly suggest keeping a secured copy elsewhere.
- PRIVATE KEY OVERRIDE
If you have files that have been encrypted with an old key pair, you can enter your old private key to decrypt those files. Always back up your previous keys.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Files are always encrypted when submitted. If you generate a new key pair, a user that still has his old 3D files in his iPad could simply resubmit them to encrypt them with the new key.
Before starting
Follow the steps in the quick start guide. Once all the necessary information has been collected, TechMed 3D will make the necessary changes and inform you when you will be ready to start testing the complete security solution.
If you have further questions or need assistance related to key management, contact our team at support@techmed3d.com.
ENCRYPTION QUICK START STEPS
|
|
|
|
Assign a File manager and Key manager. More than one user can have these roles.
The File manager can use the decrypter, download the submitted files and decrypt them.
The Key manager can generate a pair of keys that will be used in the encryption/decryption of the files.
Inform your sales representative of who they are.

|
|
Download the TestFlight version on the iPad using the link provided by your TechMed 3D sales representative.
|
Download the decrypter software on your computer and unzip it, using software such as WinRAR or 7zip.
|
|
Launch the app and create an account using a valid email address (refer to the Login/Authentication Quick Start Guide if needed).
|
Download the decrypter.ini file and save it in the iMed Decrypter 1.2 folder.
|
|
Your accounts will be approved by TechMed 3D temporarily to be able to start your tests.
|
Once these steps are completed, you will need to provide the following information to start your testing:
1. Email address of the person in charge of approving and declining accounts;
2. E-mail address of the accounts for the file manager(s) and key manager(s), created by using the in-app authentication procedure.
