When treating a scan in MSoft, it is possible that the reconstruction is not done properly by the software.
A bad reconstruction is easily identifiable by the result, frequently resulting in an indistinct mass, as shown below.
Un other cases, this can also translate with a scan showing abnormal protrusions:
Bad manual slicing. If the slicing of a body part is not done correctly with a manual operation, this can result in protrusion or particles that were ”reconstructed” away from the main scan.
Incomplete scan. There is a missing part of the scan that prevents the reconstruction.
Bad alignment. If markers are placed in the wrong order or location while aligning in the software. For example, markers put in the wrong order on a plantar surface.
Wrong side. For scan mode with more than one possible side, like feet, the side is as important as the scan mode, since the software’s algorithm also depends on that information.
Wrong scan mode. The scan mode was incorrectly selected for the actual scan. For example, using plantar mode (positive imprint) for a foam box (negative imprint).
Wrong unit scale. Every scan in MSoft is done on a scale. Processing a scan on a different scale will cause reconstruction issues. A scan done in meters and processed in millimeters will not reconstruct properly.
Missing landmarks. For certain scan modes that require it, if the landmarks are not all captured, this can result in reconstruction issues.
Symmetrical landmarks. For a mode that requires landmarks, if they symmetrical on both sides, this can cause issues for the software that might confuse both sides during the reconstruction.
Landmarks placed incorrectly. For a scan mode that requires landmarks, this will cause issues for reconstruction. This can translate to a landmark placed outside a foam box, for example.
Missing landmarks. If references are missing, this can cause issues. For example, in the Dorsum + imprint mode, if the landmarks are not placed correctly on the foam box, both segments of the scan will be missing the references for reconstruction.
